Hi, I just bought your book and I am not sure if I did the right thing.

I have not read the book yet, just skimmed through it but the info on your website compare to the book is very similar.

Even more , the book last time was update in 2015, but you website is constantly updated. The website have interactive links and is easy to navigate. Although I bought the book I wonder If I should read the website instead. I have 2 years Forex experience so I know what I am looking for.

There is lots of free info on the site. I want it to be a solid resource…same with the eBook. But they are different resources intended for different things. The articles are like spot-checks for your trading to get little tidbits of insight. The eBook is meant to provide a start-to-finish methodology for how to view and trade the market (plus basics).

The eBook has more information and is presented as a full method for trading. Single articles on the site don’t provide the whole well-rounded approach that reading the whole book will provide.

The eBook includes multiple trade setups and entries, and there are quite a few that are not included on the site.

Each trader is different. If you have been trading profitably for 2 years (that is different than just having experience) then you may be able to just look for specific articles on the website for the specific insight you are looking for. On the other hand, if you have struggled with your trading or are looking for new methods, then I recommend reading through the entire book. There are lots of insights in there. I do recommend reading the entire book (no skimming), applying what it says, and making an assessment of it then 🙂 And if it is not for you, that is okay too.

I absolutely appreciate the work you are doing. I have been “studying”/learning the stock market since September and although in December I felt ready to paper trade, I wasn’t quite sure still how to create a strategy and had fumbled around until last week when I found your site. This is after countless youtube videos, investing webinars, and one too many pitchfest webinars from seasoned (youtube) traders also offering education and mentorship at the cost of thousands of dollars that I simply dont have for that purpose. Anyhow, my theory or thoughts are; If you are already making millions per year, and the stock market essentially thrives on traders then why charge so much when the end result is a more liquid market anyway thus continuing your success? Honestly, seems greedy to me. I certainly appreciate 1 – your website, it is SO informational even without purchasing the ebook and 2 – the cost of your course(s) and books are exactly what I want to pay. You don’t blindside us with additional features & gimmicks & again, your website is already so informational that I know purchasing the book (& course) will be worth while.

I am more of a visual learner and absolutely hate the drone on and on of examples. Your articles are very to the point and have just enough examples for you to “see” what’s going on. I would mention that you seem slightly biased towards shorting and there are a couple of articles with indepth shorting setups but somewhat vague when it comes to going long… even though in a general sense it should be the exact opposite of shorting but sometimes the ramble on about swing highs, swing lows, prior highs, prior lows can easily lose a person when trying to mirror shorting… but that could be just me….

I noticed “updated & expanded 2014 2015”, I am not sure how much of the market (if any) has changed so to be sure, everything is current correct?

Also, as a stock trader, are there any portions/chapters of the book that aren’t universal to all markets and can be skipped?

Yes, nearly all the price action concepts in the eBook can be applied to other markets. Consolidations, patterns, swing highs and lows, velocity and magnitude. All that stuff is relevant in every market.

I am not biased to shorting. Possible some of the articles or videos you saw just happened to have more examples of shorting. You are correct: a short set-up is the inverse of a long setup. Everything is just flipped upside down. Glad you pointed out that though…I will try to make sure the articles have a balance of long and short examples.

The eBook is still relevant. Not much changes in terms of the concepts discussed.

If you are only interested in stocks, you can skip most of the introductory sections–currency pairs to focus on, lot sizes, pip value, forex market hours, rollover, forex correlation, forex leverage, spread to pip potential, picking a forex broker, best time to swing and day trade. Then later on…you can skip the Carry trade and European open strategy.

Cory, is the price action theory content of the course what you would consider comprehensive? I am not opposed to working everyday for a year or more to be successful - what worthy endeavor doesn’t require time – as long as I know the knowledge I’ve been given allows me to understand what’s going on. I am on the engineering side of things and have been known to buy a textbook just for a better exposition of a concept. It matters. Obrigado.

The course is all price action strategies and analysis. It contains all the price action concepts I use to trade. I also provide a short reading and viewing list (included in the download email) of other free articles/videos that help solidify the concepts. I have to tried to make the book at thorough as possible while also keeping it efficient (not making it 600 pages and discussing things that don’t really matter).

on page 54 of the book, in the last paragraph of the “Averaging Down” section, you mention a strategy called “Casting a Net with Orders”, which you define as “discussed later in the book”. However, there is no sign of this strategy in the rest of the book. I thought it would be a good thing to let you know, i’m not sure if you are already aware of it.

I’m reading your book for the second time with a more in depth approach, and i must say that the value of what you teach in it is far greater than the 50$ price tag for anyone who wishes to acquire a solid trading foundation.

As for the casting a net with orders, that is a remnant from an old version. So thanks for bringing it to my attention. In an old version of the book I discussed placing orders at multiple places around an entry point, as an OPTION. Over time though, I found that most people are better off entering at one price. Having multiple entries creates too much ambiguity around where to place the stop loss and takes more work figuring out risk and position size. So I opted to take that chapter out of the eBook.

I have just completed the swing trading stock course and cant be more happy.

I have messed around with forex for a couple of years now, but had no real strategy, so was losing more than winning. So decided I would invest time and money into some training to try and make a success of it.

I looked around and settled on Cory’s swing trading stocks course, as I had a good feeling from the reviews, course content and his articles that he was genuine, new his stuff and he provided a strategy to trading.

It wasn’t forex (which he does offer) but I thought Id try something different.

As mentioned above I have completed the training course and cant be more happy. Thought I would outline why;

1) Cory explains everything in layman’s terms, very easy to understand with examples throughout and exercises for you to practice what you have learnt.

2) I have emailed cory a few times with queries relating to the training and he has personally responded with answers very quickly, I dont think you would get that anywhere else.

3) Im no expert on training and I dont know Cory, but I can sense that he is very genuine and passionate about trading, which comes across in the training. There is so much rubbish on the web, that it is a breath of fresh air and gives you confidence that you have a chance of being successful.

4) The training only consists of information you need and only the strategies you need. Cory doesn’t bombard you with every strategy under the sun, which I personally find helps me to focus at the job in hand and be less distracted.

5) What I like about the training the most, is that it is basically a step by step guide, I needed a process to follow from A – B and this is what it delivered.

I don’t think I will need any other training now, I just need to practice what I have been taught.

great website, invaluable informations for novice traders like myself. I just recently started my education on day trading. I am very interested in the cryptocurrencies markets, and i want to specialize on this kind of trading as my first investment. Do you believe it shares many similarities with Forex markets? Do you think the same concepts could be applied and work well for cryptos? Also you never mentioned this new evolving market on your website (as far as i see). What are your thoughts about it?

Cyptos are currencies, so most of the forex concepts apply to cryptocurrencies. That said, cyprocurrency trading is more involved. The commission structure is different than normal forex pairs. Also, the cyptocurrencies do a lot less volume than typical currencies pairs, which means they are much more volatile and have larger spreads. This means there are significantly more risks with cyptocurrencies (not to mention security vulnerabilities, lack of regulation and third party software which has resulted in major hacks and losses to traders). There is of course also opportunity for a lot of profit, but because of the elevated risks compared to normal currency trading, I have opted not to discuss it on this site.

That said, I do some crypto trading, but don’t offer advice on it. Due to the higher fees/spreads/commissions with crypto, I prefer swing trading them as opposed to day trading.

The courses are on different topics, so are not really comparable. This ebook covers forex and highlights day trading and swing trading strategies. The Stock Swing Trading Video Course is focused just on swing trading stocks. Both are comprehensive, depending what market you want to trade. That said, many traders benefit from both, as the two courses offer different material but the material applies to other markets as well.

If picking up one course, pick the one on the market you are most interested in.

All the strategies are viable, and provide insight into there the price could be heading. Therefore, even if not trading a specific strategy, it is helpful to know it so that if it occurs, you have an idea of where the price could be heading (even just for analytical purposes).

If just picking a few to day trade, I would recommend front-running, as well as mini channel breakouts and the trend channel strategy (although, when day trading, you will typically notice that you won’t find a lot of nice trend channels. Therefore, we need to be a bit more flexible with the strategy, isolating the trending direction and then attempting to get in on pullbacks. Velocity and magnitude is not a strategy per se, but is a VERY important concept to understand if doing any form of trading.

That quote is ridiculous.. Most people have a computer that is adequate for day trading. As long as it operates smoothly that is all that matters (if it crashes, or lags, that is a problem). I use two monitors, but that is not a requirement (when traveling I trade on a laptop). A decent reliable high speed internet connection is also required (again, most people have this already for Netflix 😉 ).

Stock quotes are provided for free by many brokers, and if not, the fees are pretty minimal. $2/month, per exchange, on TradingView.

Forex quotes are free from every forex broker I have every seen.

Futures quotes can be a bit more, but still, overall fees can be kept under a $100 usually.

There is no requirement for any subscriptions (although some people may choose to pay for premium features on some sites).

That article makes it sound like ya gotta spend hundreds a month, and upgrade the computer all the time. That is simply not the case. If you trade Forex, the fees can be $0/month.

Commissions (or the spread) are a factor to consider, as discussed in the book. But ultimately, if you are taking trades with solid reward:risk ratios, the commissions or spread shouldn’t be a big problem. The only time the commission or spread become a hurdle is when volatility is really low, and there aren’t many good trading opportunities. At those times, it is better to just sit back and not trade as much…I discussed that issue here: vantagepointtrading/archives/21008.

Other than the capital required to actually start trading (account capital), day trading is probably the lowest barriers to entry career there is…..of course that doesn’t mean it is easy 😉

Hi Cory, I am a stock and options investor (middle term), but I am highly interested on learning day trading (I have a medium knowledge on swing trading). My objective is to have a “salary” to invest on the short-long term on stocks in order to profit from the compound return. The thing is that I do not know where to start. The book is only available in eBook format…although you can print it if you wish (find a cheap print shop, as the book is over 300 pages).

A little less than a third of the book is focused on forex basics, and navigating the forex market…these sections would not really be applicable to other markets.

The rest of the book looks at analysis techniques and strategies. Most of these chapters are applicable to other markets as well.

The strategies can be used for day trading or swing trading. The book compiles much of the information on the site into one resource, plus a lot more. That said, I am always adding new content to the site, so reading the articles on the site in the section you mentioned is encouraged.

Day trading is fast paced, much more so than swing trading. This eBook will give you strategies you can utilize and things to watch for while day trading, but it is not a day trading intensive course (it isn’t only focused on day trading). In other words, this is a great starting point for day trading and swing trading to get you started with some solid fundamentals.

Thanks for compiling such a comprehensive and useful e-book. I read it from start to finish and have now created my own trading plan and began to execute it in a demo account. I blew 80% of my account in the past before deciding to go back to square 1, read your book, and do it right the second time so as not to lose the rest of it!

I purchased the book at the beginning of March 2017, and am now going through it for the second time. I am truly a novice – have never traded any markets before. I am really impressed with this book and I look forward to continuing on my path to learning. It is understandable, readable, yet contains a wealth of information. They are price-action based strategies, so they would be hard to program in MQL4.

I wanted to write to you to let you know how grateful I am to have found your book on Forex trading. I bought your book back on the tenth of October and got through it in a few days. After that I opened up my demo account and traded with that until the end of January. I had averaged 47% compounded return per month. Then the first week of February I funded my live account with $28000. To ease my self into it and control my emotions, I started off risking $50 per trade. After the first week trading live and returning over 13%, I started trading risking a full one percent of my account this week of February 5. Over this week I managed to pull in just under 10% this week! This is more than how much I make in a whole month at my current job as a carpenter apprentice, which I plan on quitting in the very near future. Needless to say, I am very grateful I had found you. Thank you very much for all you have done for me. If anyone is on the border of getting the book I got 2 words for you, DO IT, I am sure you won’t regret it! THE KNOWLEDGE IN THIS BOOK IS WORTH THOUSANDS.

I have been learning and trading for about ten years now, mostly part time as I haven’t had enough consistent success to quit my job. The most important thing I have learned (and learned it just recently) is that everything I have learned up to this point has been bulls**t. That was a very bitter lesson. It represented a huge investment in time and effort, not to mention dollars, and all to learn that one lesson: everything I learned up to this point has been wrong. Uau. But it makes sense, right? If MOST retail traders lose their money, and you do what they do, then you will …. ganhar! Certo? NÃO! Claro que não! If you do what everyone else does, you will get what everyone else gets, plain and simple. Aaargh. I started this entry with a question in mind but now it seems to have run off somewhere, sorry 🙂

But I CAN ask: your approach to trading sounds different and from reading some of your articles you have no aversion to going against the grain; so, do you consider yourself a traditional trader or something more outside of the box?

For me, this is not just a $50 investment, it is the $50 PLUS the hours and hours of time spent reading and practicing, which is the REAL investment.

Isso é muito verdadeiro. I discuss that in a number of articles on the site–expect to put in a lot of time before the work starts to pay out. Unfortunately, that time investment will be increased significantly if working on the wrong things. For anyone who has traded for any length time, we know trading is not as easy as plotting an indicator and doing exactly what it says.

I think I am a bit traditional, but also outside the box. Basically, I take common patterns and then try to exploit them to my advantage in ways that most others don’t think about. For example, waiting for a false breakout instead of being frustrated by them. Taking trades inside chart patterns (and using price action to determine the direction) instead of waiting for traditional breakouts (which are fraught with the previously mentioned false breakouts), just as a couple examples. As you mentioned, we can’t do exactly what a pile of other people are doing, because it puts a target on our backs. We need to be just a touch smarter…slightly better entries, etc. As the same time, it is the largest group of traders that pushes the price within a trend, therefore we do need to trade with the group much of the time, we just need to have slightly better entries and exits than the bulk of them. Here is an article that combines some of the tactics in a day trading context: vantagepointtrading/archives/14162 it also goes into planning trades (which is laid out in the ebook in the form of checklists).

As for my methods, I would say you will find the first half the book fairly basic. These are basic building blocks upon which I base the more advanced strategies later on. All the strategies will take work and time to learn, as they are based on price action which adds in a subjective element (which is good, because a strategy where thousands of traders are all getting in and out at the exact same price won’t work—talk about slippage!). Subjective in this case means we are looking at multiple pieces of evidence to formulate (or not take) a trade, so two traders may not come the exact same trade decision in a forex pair, but over time if they stick to their analysis (and have practiced and tested it) they can both do well.

Not sure if that helps, but take from it what you will.

The best thing I like about Cory’s book and his posts is the reality. I initially do not believe day trading can make consistent income since my background is from Finance and Economics. However, after reading his posts I changed my mind and decided to be a full time trader. This is because he treats trading the same way as running a business. He talks about making a plan, implement strategies, risk management, and review past performance. That’s pretty much the same an entrepreneur needs to do to run his business.

What I’m getting at the moment is that trading doesn’t need to be complicated; just trade the way that you enjoy, and that matches your lifestyle, and probably not to try and trade too many systems.

I have been heavily investing my time and efforts into learning not only the forex but equity market as well. The one thing I’m sure most of you and I realize is that there is a lot of scams and garbage out there. Also, it takes time and lots of it to sift through the crap and gather together what you feel is useful. Trust me, I’ve been doing it for weeks now and get frustrated every time I find information that counters what I want to employ or just adds more clutter to things I need to focus on.

If you want to skip the hours, more like days of sorting through strategies, psychology and market information, just get this eBook. It is a great foundation for any person who wants to trade forex or equities. I found many of the strategies in this book carry over to the equity markets as well.

Don’t think this book will provide you with a holy grail strategy and smoke up your rear to make you feel that it will be easy and you’ll get rich quick. One of the best things about this book is that it is REALITY. You will not get rich overnight and there is no one strategy that will bank you 400% returns. You will have to study, you will have to grind and you will struggle but Cory reassures you that it is normal and you will become successful if you are disciplined and focused.

Great question. I will write an article on this in the near future.

You don’t need to learn everything. People think that the more they know the better traders they will be. This isn’t the case. Beyond knowing how a market functions and how price move, the only thing to do is learn a strategy and practice it over and over again. Since each day is slightly different, practicing that strategy in hundreds of different scenarios/days will tune your mind so that you can implement it whenever an opportunity presents itself that is in alignment with strategy. Isso é isso. No reason to know everything about technical analysis or to keep reading article after article and watching video after video. Find (or makeup) one strategy you like and practice it over and over again until you are consistently profitable in a demo account. Then switch to real capital and continue to implement that strategy. If you can do it successfully, that is it. You don’t need to know anything else…you are making money, and that is the only purpose of trading. You can make small changes to your strategy as you face different scenarios, but really, it is just about practicing one or two strategies over and again.

In this book I provide quite a few strategies, but in the last few chapters it all gets tied back to only working on one or two, because that is really all you need…and the dedication to practice them A LOT, until you can spot them in all types of market conditions and are confident enough to trade them without fear or greed clouding your judgement.

You could use the strategies for entry points into options trades, but the book does not cover options at all. Therefore, you would need to have an understanding of options already in order to utilize the strategies discussed in the book effectively. Please note that I am talking about “real” options, like those traded on the CBOE or CME. I do not recommend trading binary options, especially the ones typically offered by brokers outside the US (US Nadex binary options can be ok, but still not ideal).

Hi Cory, I’ve read a few of your articles – would you recommend your book to a complete beginner who knows very little about trading of any type? Or would you recommend another resource to familiarise myself with how it works first?

The book goes through everything you need to start trading the forex market. So it covers all the basics (such as which orders to use and how the market works and moves) and then advances to reading a price chart, making trades and following a strategy. Being a beginner is great because you will learn how to trade effectively from the start (no developing bad habits)!

I trade futures and I would like to know, does your book offer guidance for a intraday futures trader?

Do the strategies, written in your book, apply to the futures market?

Quite a few of the strategies can be used in any market, but several of the ones in the book are specifically for forex. Here’s the breakdown:

Chapters 1 – 7 all focus only on forex.

Capítulo 8 & # 8211; 12 are applicable to other markets.

Chapter 13 is about forex.

Chapter 14 is applicable to all traders.

Chapter 15 is meant for forex.

Chapter 16 is applicable to all markets.

Chapter 17 and 18 may be applicable to some other markets (but not all)

Chapter 19 to Chapter 33 are applicable to all markets.

So about half the book is information that can used in other markets, and about half is focused on forex. All the examples and charts are from the forex market though.

Is this book available in any bookshop in Singapore ?

Downloaded your e-book last night and read about wedges and breakouts from wedges, turned on my computer this morning at 7.00 am (UK time), and there was a perfect example, caught the breakout at 7.25 perfectly (EURUSD) – brilliant!.

I find Frankfurt open (7.00am) till 2 hrs into London open (till 10.00 am), you get just as good moves as the first 3 hrs of New York open.

I have just finished reading the book and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into trading the FOREX market.

To give you some background, I have been dabbling around the edges of FOREX trading on a part time basis for a few years now with very little success but not much in way of losses either. I have bought a few indicators, kissed a few frogs, spent some cash on training; all have given disappointing results, I was thinking maybe it is just me? I would still class myself as a relatively inexperienced trader.

Cory brings the process together in a clear, concise and yet comprehensive manner. He covers all aspects of what it takes to get trading and making profit. The book is 330 pages long. There is a lot to absorb but it is an easy and digestible read.

If you are seriously committed to trade FOREX then this book should be constantly at hand. Don’t pass by the opportunity to get yourself a truly comprehensive guide to trading. This is the best value for money that I have found on the subject of FOREX trading. I literally spent thousands on three day a FOREX course that was way less informative.

I would definitely recommend reading this e-book multiple times! I wish this was written when I started trading. Cory spells it out. New traders, if you follow what he teaches from the start, you will have a very good chance of becoming a successful trader. I have struggled for years and I have to re-train my brain to get rid of some of the old baggage and adapt to the concepts Cory teaches. It can sometimes be a fine line between success and failure. This will help you gain an edge. On another note, Cory’s willingness to share his insight is rare in this business. Read his articles, website, tweets, etc. It will help.

I purchased the book to learn more about the different technical analysis and their applicability to different condition of the market. The book explained them very well and I appreciate the real trades examples given. What I really like is that the book is giving a pretty objective point of view by mentioning that there will be losing trades and what we should do to come up with an overall long term winning strategy.

Trading/investing is akin to Poker, even playing a good hand, you can lose sometimes, but it you stay the course, hopefully, you can have a winning trade. The hardest part for me is to shove away my losing trade and stay focus to the winning strategy. In order to do so, it requires practice and having that mental stability to always stay the course. You just have to make sure that your course is the correct one though. The book discussed about this mental aspect very well in terms of coming up with trading plan. Overall, it is a good book. I agree with some of the comments that there are so many strategies in the book. But, for newer traders, I think it would be good to focus on a few of them and knowing which market condition (Trending, Breaking, and Consolidating market) to apply them. The tricky part is then to have the discipline to not trade/stay away when the market condition is not the right one for the particular strategies you use. Especially, after making winning trades, human nature always thinks that you can’t be wrong and this makes you want to make more trades even when the market condition has changed. Cory explains this very well in the book about the common psychological pitfalls that most trader experience. Overall, it is a good book.

Awesome points Andre. Staying the course is difficult after a losing a trade…or few. Yet it is exactly at those times that staying the course gets us back on track. Also a great point about staying away when the conditions don’t suit the strategy. NOT trading is actually one of the toughest elements of trading. It is a constant battle to force ourselves not to trade when conditions don’t favor it, or when we want to trade just because we are bored. And yes, focusing on one or two strategies at a time is all that is needed (and recommended). Thanks for the feedback and best wishes!

A great book if you’ve just embarked on the road of day-trading. As I made my first steps into the field, I encountered some articles by Corey and gradually and surely gained respect to him, which led to me to purchasing his book. Oh boy, am I glad I did. It has saved me countless hours in research and sifting trough articles and write-ups, some which might have led me astray. Furthermore, the book has furnished me with tools to navigate through the stormy seas of Forex and hopefully become a lucrative trader in the future.

The first part of the book offers a clear overview of day-trading and lays the ground to creating a successful trading system. The rest of it offers myriad of profitable strategies that fit various market conditions. This wealth of information is explained in an easy and palatable manner with ample charts and examples; an exceptional handbook with which I’ll consult long into the future.

A word of caution: The focus of the book is price action, so if you are looking to be taught strategies based on indicators, statistical analysis or through any other prism, look elsewhere.

A word of caution II: One pass is not enough. There’s too much to learn. Read it, experiment with a demo account, lose a lot (ha ha), and re-read it. A lot will click together; a lot will make sense; winning strategies will emerge.

I’m now looking at downloading your Forex Strategies Guide for Day and Swing Traders 2.0 course but am curious as to whether or not any of the strategies included may be appropriate for an initial capital investment of $1000 or less? I have read your article on trading with $1000 or less but am interested to know if what’s covered in the book will assist me in actually implementing and monitoring such a strategy.

In the first few chapter I recommend Day Trading forex with at least $1000. You can start with as little as $500, or even $200 or $300…but if doing so commit to grow the account to more than $1000 before making withdrawals.

For forex swing trading the the absolute minimum is $500, but that may limit what type of trades you can take. For swing trading, having $1500+ is recommended.

You may also want to check out this article: How to Day Trade Forex in 2 Hours or Less vantagepointtrading/archives/14162. It also contains quite a bit of info on what I look for when day trading (and day trading require less capital, but at the same time requires you to be in front of your computer for part of the London or early US session).

Part of it is I’ve taken so many courses and have read so many books that I am very familiar with many concepts, so I understand things pretty fast now. But there wasn’t much in the book I haven’t seen before. For me, the book is pretty basic, but for others, I think it’s a good book.

I think it’s a good book for someone brand new to trading, but at the same time, it’s a book that probably should be free.

I wish this book would have been available few years back and I would have saved those years trying to become successful trader. This book is well written and every trader should read it before trying to learn technical analysis alone. “Introduction and 5 Step Plan for Trading Success” is a must chapter for everybody learning this book. Cory has shared the true path to become successful trader through this book and his blogs.

Aspects of 3 M’s have been clearly explained. He has shared many strategies; and he is aware that not all be suitable for everybody. Its up to individual traders to choose which are suitable for them. I really appreciate Cory’s patience and willingness to answer all your questions and resolve your queries till you understand the subject. I recommend his book and also his blogs. He has packed all the knowledge he wants to share with people in this book and at the same time he keep that knowledge updated with his blogs.

great resource. a lot of information to absorb….more than i thought there was. but i liked that after everything is taught the book shows how to simplify again…giving a few things to focus on and giving a pretty solid example of a trading plan. in my opinion, worth the price as it saved me a great deal of time and money. strategies are quite different than common indicator strategies available everywhere. nice to see something different. different seems good.

I read the book and found it surprisingly well written and informative. The money management advice alone is very valuable not to mention the many trading strategies, a couple of which I have adopted into my trading plan. I would certainly recommend this ebook along with Cory’s insightful posts on his website.

Normally a stock and E-minis trader, I can’t wait to get my hands on this eBook to get some insight on Forex trading. For a novice Forex trader such as myself and many others, this eBook seems to be the way to go. A bit late, as always, but I will finally send my comments. First of all, as a new trader I want to say that this is an excellent source of information gathered together. Risk management is a well covered topic and of great importance. The spread to pip potential was very helpful and new to me! I liked the chart pattern very much. Personally I would like the candlestick patterns to be more extended.

This is a big book. Many times I had a problem with navigation among the information or finding a specific topic or example that I had read. The titles and subtitles should be more distinct. For example, the subtitles had a smaller font then the text and they were difficult to find in a scroll. I guess that bulleting somehow or giving the opportunity to use the highlight tool during reading would be a great help.

To all: I have included many more “nuts and bolts” in the new version…best times to day trade (and how to determine this for each pair) and best times to put out swing trade orders, an expanded list of pairs to focus on for each trading style, how much money to start with (minimums and ideal) based on trading style, and of course more on risk management. Lots of other additions as well, including a 5-step method to bring everything together and functionally use it.

@Mike. I’ve changed the context of the “range bound” section and added in a strategy which works well in most pairs, but especially in the more “rangey” pairs like the AUDCAD and EURGBP…and could have been used on the big bounce we just saw in the GBPCHF. The strategy acts as a way to filter some trending trades, trade the first stages of a range, or catch a strong reversal.

As for an update on the release date: still looking at November 5, but may be a bit later than that so I can make sure everything is explained adequately.

I found the section on which pairs that were most likely to be range bound very helpful. Looking forward to the new ebook revision.

I found this book extremely useful. The book contains a wealth of information on the nuts and bolts of forex, great advice on money/ risk management, and a wide selection of strategies to consider. The strategies are discussed with a lot of practical information and detail to help real world implementation, such as how best to calculate targets, stops, best times of day and timeframes for particular strategies. Important characteristics of particular currencies are also discussed. The book also includes some useful reminders on the psychological pitfalls and the need for a realistic plan.

Good mix of strategies, and like Kelly mentioned, I’ve focused on just few along with money management. Looking forward to the updated and expanded edition to keep improving my trading!

I read the original ebook and am looking forward to 2.0. As a new trader I found that overall the book explained things quite well. There were lots of strategies to choose from, but ultimately I decided to focus on a few of the simple one since I am just starting out. The money management guidelines stressed throughout the book also made sense. So by incorporating those things, along with some tips from the book, I am starting to see some success 🙂

Acredito que a negociação diária de gráficos pode ser o seu “Santo Graal” nos mercados, eis o porquê…

Negociar o gráfico de 5 minutos (e outros prazos mais baixos) diminui suas chances de sucesso e é amplamente considerado como jogo:

Vou dizer-lhes uma coisa agora que você pode não ter pensado antes ... você só precisa de um grande comércio por mês para ser um comerciante bem sucedido dos estrangeiros. Sim, isso é correto, uma grande negociação vencedora por mês.

Como isso é possível, você pode perguntar? Bem, eu aposto que se você der uma olhada no histórico de sua conta de negociação agora mesmo, você pode encontrar a resposta sozinho. Você vê, a maioria de você está perdendo dinheiro porque você está negociando com muita freqüência, e você está negociando com muita freqüência porque você está obcecado em analisar o mercado, variáveis de notícias Forex e gráficos de prazo mais baixos (considero qualquer gráfico sob o 1 hora para ser “menor período de tempo”).

Alguns de vocês provavelmente sabem que esse envolvimento excessivo com o mercado é o motivo pelo qual você está perdendo dinheiro regularmente ou lutando para manter sua cabeça acima da água. No entanto, mesmo sabendo que isso impede você de alcançar o sucesso nos mercados, você não pode acabar com seu vício em negociar gráficos de prazos mais baixos e analisar os mercados em excesso. Ter paciência e disciplina para se concentrar apenas nos gráficos diários exige mais esforço do seu sutiã mais desenvolvido em áreas. Então, o que realmente se resume a isso é que os comerciantes que são viciados em prazos mais baixos não podem se libertar da estimulação instantânea que recebem quando entram em uma negociação ... mesmo que isso geralmente resulte em perder dinheiro, porque cada vez que eles entram No mercado, seus cérebros são inundados com endorfinas da “emoção” de potencialmente ganhar muito dinheiro muito rápido. Então, o ponto aqui é que os comerciantes que são viciados em negociar um gráfico de 15 minutos são realmente viciados no sentimento que sentem ao entrar no mercado, e isso significa que eles são incapazes de usar seu planejamento mais avançado e áreas cerebrais de longo prazo de forma eficaz. Isso não significa que eles são incapazes de usá-los, apenas significa que eles não sabem que estão viciados em negociar prazos mais baixos ou não sabem como pará-lo.

Pessoalmente, conheci apenas alguns day-traders que ganham dinheiro consistentemente, e quase todos parecem realmente esgotados e esgotados, como um junky que não consegue parar de pensar ou falar sobre suas drogas (o mercado). Qualquer um pode ir a um cassino e ter sorte algumas vezes na mesa de pôquer, mas por que você acha que é possível para algumas pessoas ganhar no poker de novo e de novo e de novo, ao ponto de ganharem dinheiro com isso? É porque eles têm uma visão de longo prazo e percebem que o sucesso deles não é definido por nenhuma das cartas, assim como o seu sucesso comercial não é definido por nenhuma negociação. Então, se você quiser transformar seu comércio, é hora de engolir sua necessidade de “controlar” o mercado e de gratificação instantânea, e começar a ter uma visão de longo prazo dos mercados, concentrando-se no cronograma diário.

Nial, eu não tenho dinheiro suficiente para negociar os gráficos diários ...

Eu recebo este e-mail quase todos os dias: “Nial, como posso trocar os gráficos diários quando preciso ter perdas maiores e não tenho muito dinheiro na minha conta, só posso me dar ao luxo de trocar o gráfico de 15 minutos por enquanto, então, quando eu construir minha conta, eu trocarei prazos mais longos ”…

Muitos traders pensam dessa maneira, e geralmente é só porque eles não sabem o suficiente sobre o tamanho da posição de negociação Forex ou porque eles pensam em negociar tamanhos de posição maiores nos gráficos de prazos mais baixos que vão ganhar dinheiro mais rápido.

Então, deixe-me definir isso diretamente para vocês agora: através do dimensionamento de posição, você pode negociar os gráficos diários bem em uma pequena conta de negociação ... você só precisa trocar um tamanho de posição menor. Mas, vamos enfrentá-lo, se você tem uma pequena conta de negociação, você não deve estar negociando de qualquer maneira! Você precisa se livrar dessa atitude de "ficar rico rápido" e pensar que a negociação de um gráfico de 15 minutos de alguma forma vai lhe proporcionar mais oportunidades de lucro.

Is this the reason why 95%of traders lose money trading the lower time frames?

I used to trade the lower time frames heavily made money too but I was stressed and found myself thinking about charts all day. I found higher time frames by accident and never looked back. I still lose traded but not as much and I feel so much better.

I have not yet began trading but am studying my different options for executions. This seems so true because back in my poker days when I used to play a bunch of hands for small wins id end up playing a bad one that lost all my wins and my payroll. Where as when i was patient for my good hand id win the amount of all those small pots together and more without all the little and big losses to follow. So i definitely notice a big connection between these two games and the philosophy of patient play versus quick and impulsive ones.

I guess I am seeing this late… I am a victim of emotional trading but the love of forex won’t keep me away…. you said in your article, trading 15m and below is highly risky and considered as gambling… however, 30m, 1hr, 4hr… were not mentioned. Can one trade successfully and consistently using 30m, 1hr & 4hr trades? Nial, I love this article particularly, and I have read many. I first started trading a little more than a month ago, and following your advice, I quickly started to realize great, consistent profits trading the daily charts. However, I am a naturally curious person, and having encountered some interesting trading strategies for lower timeframes, I decided to try my “luck”.

After research, study, and practice, I would reap great profits in 15 minutes or an hour on the 15m or 5m charts. Then, I would have an equally bad or twice as bad losing streak the next day. And I couldn’t make consistent profits. Reviewing my demo account, I noticed that my most profitable times were with your strategies on the daily chart, so I decided to revisit your website and see what you had to say on the subject.

Low and behold, I was suckered into impulsive gambling by the allure of quick profits without realizing it. I went in with the best of intentions, lead by curiosity and greed.

My true aim is self-control and iron-clad willpower, so I will be returning to the daily charts, implementing the strategies as you have described them. I’m sure you have lots of emails and feedback like my own, so mine may have little significance to you amidst all the “noise”, but I wanted to reinforce what an amazing job you are doing in sharing your knowledge with people like myself. I am trying to comprehend what exactly you meant here and will appreciate you could help me with this matter by answering the below questions:

I understand you trade on daily charts, but Does Nial Often Checks The Market On Four Hours Intervals on H4, Or Rather Solely Deals With Daily Charts For The Purpose Of Entries and Exits?

Monitoring 10 instruments 6 times a day on four-hour charts translates into 60 times analysis on one single trading day that could be really drowning, whereas dealing with daily charts downscale it to 10 analysis a day, if I am correctly getting what you have been trying to say.

I perform analysis on daily charts at the end of the New York session and I check live trades a couple of times per day. (in the morning and in the evening)

Hello, I’ve been trading for about 4 years and it finally took me that long to realize that the lower time frames are the problem. Everything Nial mentioned in this article is true. Really good advice, but you have to wean yourself off the lower time frames first. I would never trade anything, but daily chart trades.

I just started getting in to trading and coming across this is making me doubt my strategy. Is it possible to still be successful on a smaller time scale? I have been trading on a 4 hour, 1 hour, and 15 min scale depending on if I am looking for a trend or entry, then set my stops accordingly. I don’t sit glued staring at charts for hours on end, I check back a few times to see if I have a confirmed entry signal and that’s it.

Jesse, I am not a fan of short time-frames, I much prefer the higher time-frames eg: 4 hour and daily charts.

Hi why there different day chart for different trading platform also different chart for different timezone. Even though forex market opens same time all over the world. Trading platform opens a dayily candle midnight base on their respective countrys timezone. I am quite confused the signal i can see from Uk might be different from the signal a trade sees from Us or far east. Please can you explain.

Isso faz muitosentido. Almost every trader I know trades the M15. And every trader I know loses money. The lower time frames are just chaos and noise. The D1 is crystal clear (or pretty damn close!)

Yes, there are fewer trades and you’re holding them for a lot longer (my record is holding a trade for 40 days) but the ROI is much higher and with pyramiding, it’s insane. I trade five pairs and typically only have one 2% trade a month in each but the return is usually 8-10% in each pair. Huge.

If you can’t seem to make money as a trader, try trading D1 before throwing in the towel. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. And if you find it too boring that’s OK. Still trade D1 and go find something else to do for your kicks!

Very sound and logical article. I sometimes wonder are there any 5min chart winners at all! It’s true that daily chart is more efficient than 5 mins but overall, market itself is not and that’s how winners cashout from losers.

In relation to the article, the only time I ever made huge profit was buying and adding on to my long term position in silver from $37 to $49 more than 1000 pips and why it happened? Cuz one day I was tired of gambling and decided to long silver cuz it was a hot topic and the daily chart was bullish. I had no bs tight stops and bought very little amount. I added and added more while trailing the stop till one day my P/L was so attractive I took a screen shot of it :-)

Very frank, but the 1st sentence hit home with my experience. That’s why I like Nial’s approach in teaching. Being blunt is probably the quickest way to learn. To many it may seem like a slap in the face; but to many it’s very well needed.

A couple of small points I would like to add please.

It is possible to be a very profitable trader on the lower time frames…BUT…one must exercise the same sort of PATIENCE required for the Daily time frames (Don’t over trade)

And ..the lower time frames MUST suit your personal makeup(Type of person you are)

It is fair to say the larger time frames will not suit everyone, just as the shorter time frames will not suit many, many traders personal makeup….So to sum up what a great article and learning to trade the time frame(s) that suit Your personal makeup with PATIENCE is critical…

The daily time-frame is all that is needed for people to trade “for a living”. We just start at different starting points but the key is to accept your start position and begin to head towards the finishing line.

There have been countless cases of retail (and professional) traders getting caught up in their emotions (greed in this case) and consequently blowing their accounts.

In my humble opinion, position sizing stands alongside a traders strategy in terms of importance to being a successful trader. So few people touch upon this subject but all successful traders know the following when entering a trade:

1. How much they are risking on this trade.

2. How much they are looking to make on this trade.

The above is only possible through position sizing on each and every trade. The novice trader will often trade 1 mini-lot per trade or there abouts but this does not make the above two statements true and hence the account does not grow according to expectations.

Thanks again for your article and as you can see, you’ve touched a raw nerve for me as I firmly believe in the points you have raised and I don’t think the importance of the points are emphasised enough.

I’m a believer that one does need experience before one will master something (there’s the rule of a thumb of 10000 hours to become a master). It takes some time to really come to the point to realize and to be at ease with your greedy mind to accept the truth that reducing trading frequency does improve your performance. Only enter the 95% trades and then go away…I hope that the people will sometime really see the truth of what your constantly saying.

As always what a wonderful article. The same thing happened to me as what Chris pointed out in his mail. My “Guru” also told me trade 5min chart and I have experienced the consequences. A great article and a must read for all traders who think the money is in the lower time frames. Invariably most traders start out with the wrong mindset and it is those who are persistant with their education realise after time that 5-15 minute charts are the playground of gamblers and 4hour-daily charts are for traders. I started with the 5 minute chart several years ago and blew my account several times before I realised that patience, discipline and the ‘less is more’ approach in terms of frequency of trading is where the success lies. I trade twice a month on average. Negociação Feliz.

It would seem logical if a person is going trade a daily chart, it would be helpful to look at a longer term chart say for example the weekly chart to know where one is at in the bigger picture, a 4 hour chart if one is going to trade a 1 hour chart to determine whether we are at resistance/supply or support/demand. For example, if we are looking at a daily chart to trade and we see that the weekly chart is near a support level in the long term chart, we might have to find that level on daily chart to see if their is enough room to trade it for profits.

come from a poker playing background and to be successful you really do have to understand that its about the long term results. Anyone that goes for a quick fix, fast profits, instant gratification ultimately ends in pain. Forex along with poker offers all the pitfalls, highs and lows that any adrenaline junkie could ask for. You can make it hard or easy for yourself and trading the higher time frames is the easy route. Be kind to yourself and slow down and enjoy your wonderful life!

Such good advice. I figured this out on my own after a year and a half of trading. Daily charts are the way to go but I still trade on the 4 hour charts too. Anyone can be successful trading price action strategy on the higher time frames. It is quite simple, trading forex is not as complex as most “gurus” want you to believe.

Nial & # 8230; It’s a incredible lesson. I opened my account last month. Nearly 60% of my money lost because of what you say above. After that I focus higher time frame. And earn some moolah. It’s true what you said, but I am late….. (Sigh.. If you publish this one month before… I can make some sense.)

Coming from a die-hard day trader who trades from the 5 minute and 15 minute charts, I am convinced that you are indeed correct. I have been struggling to stay ahead as a day-trader for the past 8 months. I have 2 accounts – one was opened last September and the other this past December. The September account has an account balance of 3,100 (opened at 2,500), but the Equity in the account is only 1,100. That’s because I had to hedge alot of my trades to avoid losses I feel I did not deserve to lose. The same thing is happening to the December account which has a balance of 2,850 (opened at 2,500) and the equity is at 1,850 because of hedge positions. I work so hard at this on a daily basis, getting up at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning and trading until noon and sometimes later. I feel like I am knocking myself out burning myself out trying to become successful at this business. The reason I put hedge trades on is because I am getting tired of blowing out accounts and accepting losses I don’t deserve to lose. Maybe it is time for a change to the Daily charts. Hopefully it will solve the problems I have been having, and get me back on the road to success. I love this stuff, and I have put alot of hard-earned money and time into it. I don’t want to give up on it, especially when it fits in to my personality so well.

Another point against trading lower time frames that is not mentioned is that in any forex trade you have to cross the spread (usually around one or two pips depending on the pair) so the market maker/broker get their cut.

If you are trading a longer time frame you might have 100 pip stop with a 300 pip profit target so crossing the spread doesn’t cost that much on a trade by trade basis. But if you have small stop of five pips with a 15 pip profit target that a spread of 1.5 pips represents 10% of your profits.

As a trader, I never traded any time frames lower than the 4hr chart. As a matter of fact, I discontinued using the 4hr chart and only focus on the daily about 2 months! Big improvement!

In addition to trading the daily, try not focus on too many pairs!

Each pair has it owns ebbs and flow and we need to know the market by listening and reading it! If we have to do this many pairs, we’ll lose focus!

Nial, have just finished the first paragraph and I had to post and say… Right on! While you can, and some do be profitable from only looking at smaller time frames, it is extremely tough. I know my fair amount of successful small time frame traders and I can say that every one of them knows exactly where the daily’s are before they pull the trigger on a five minute.

undestand that “daily trading”in FX market is the best appeoach for money making.

It is so true. I started to trade forex 1 & half year ago. But the newbie of myself tends to trade a lot in 1 hour chart and eventually led to loses. At this time, I came across Nial’s course and try to practice his teaching in demo account for more than half year with profit. And now I bring it to live account and the result is the same – rentável. Now I trade very less, sometime I didn’t trade at all for 2 weeks. But I trade when there is obvious price action. With the price action, displine and patience, that’s bring me profit. I really love Nial’s teaching and other trades should follow this if you not yet a profitable trader. This is so so true, when i started fx trading, my “guru” told me to emulate his success using 5 min charts, that was the biggest mistake i had ever made…..over time even his account went into margin call…many traders under him gave up as a result and called Forex a scam…

Yes Progressive Flexhybrid still doing wonders for me, there is also quite a few. set files in the member forums that have done particularly well for me like the Global Progressive RSI H1 and Global Double Edged TDI Slope H4.

I have to say this EA has been a pleasant surprise. I have been through a lot of hot flaming garbage ea’s, its quite embarrassing actually 🙁 This is the only one that actually worked straight out of the box without fiddling with settings. Its also the only EA where the customer support is provided by the developer himself. Every other EA I had to try to explain my problems to outsourced Indian customer support that didn’t have a clue.

Somebody is using the new “hedging” function successfully?

currently I can’t recommend the new hedging feature. Against my principles I used it on real account on loosing trades. With V4.12 it opened a bench of hedge trades with pyramiding lot sizes. I had at sudden.

15 lot opened. With V4.13 there it opens only 1 hedge position with a TP. When TP is hit it opens another one. However, your initial basket in that time is still collecting DD. In addition if the market turns and moves against your hedge, there you will add additional DD depending on lot multiplier for hedge. Hence it is very risky to use if you don’t closely monitor.

In V4.20 there are some improvements on the hedging feature such as definable SL and TP, but it’s still beta and I don’t re command to use it yet.

Running this EA for several weeks now and all goes well except that I have to figure out some way to prevent stop loss by major events like the GBP flash crash from last week. Also occasionally stop loss is hit due to trending. I use demo accounts of 1000 or 2000 USD with 0.01 lotsize.

One other problem is in the updates of flex. I got warnings from MT4 when v3.60 was released but it didn’t install automatically. So I had to manually reinstall all charts (many of them 🙂 )

I am also wondering what will happen to open trades when I install v4. Will the open trades be taken over by Flex 4.0, even when the timeframe and other settings are different?

Here are my 5 (to 500) cents on your questions. Please anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

For 100% there is no guarantee that you won’t loose in forex trading even with flexEA. In general there are 2 situations when those extreme movements can happen.

In addition it can be in a way planed such as.

a) Economic news calendar events.

b) unplaned – by market.

Furthermore you may need to divide between.

1) no trades open.

2) trade basket open.

Here are the “protections” flexEA and maybe others offer.

1.a) Movement caused by news:

New news filter in V4. But keep in mind that sometimes even on medium impact news huge movements may occur or speeches may take some more minutes and then take effect on market.

1.b) No news driven: maxATR and maxSpread settings. Don’t leave maxSpread on on default 7.0! Don’t bother if those filters sometimes reduce trading frequency as they will save your account from big suffer.

In V4 there are next to the news filter much more filters to protect as much as possible.

SR filter and TDI are the ones I am currently interested in.

2.a) News related: New news filter can be configured in order to close baskets on MinsBeforeNews value of minutes. But that would affect every time a news event occurs.

Maybe the news filter on open baskets may be improved by something like.

& # 8211; stop open new trades (means pause basket during news)

& # 8211; close if DD max % or $ (means if in profit or DD e. g. 1x% then close before news otherwise pray or use regular DD).

2.b) In case of a big move against your basket of trades, there is one major protection for your account that is the DD% value. Flex offers you to specify it on a per chart or a “global” basis called “allCharts”. But this only means all charts where flex is working on with the same magic number – keep that in mind if you user other EA as well.

In addition you may set a RealStoppLoss if the strategy you’re trading doesn’t set it by default.

In V4 there is also a new option (at least I didn’t see it before) called PauseBasketsAtDD. If you use it, flex stops adding more trades to the basket in the loosing direction.

In total I would wish some more flexible exit conditions in flex. The new entry filters look very promising, but exit is limited to a pip gain or trailing from a certain profit point or DD/SL. As this product is actively developed, I hope we see something like this in the future.

About the update thing I never saw a notification that there’s a new version. I check from time to time the web side .. currently on a daily basis.

The trick to not having to setup the charts on each update is to rename the ex4 file. I cut the version off and simply overwrite it on each update.

Finally as long as your magic number will not change, flex will trade your open trades. Just be careful that the new parameters are set correctly. If you want to save you custom settings, save the settings in a set file and merge it afterwards. Por exemplo. I made me a. set file which contains only User and Strategy parameter. If you load this, only those values will be changed.

great tips for newbies GP!

been using Flex myself since august 2015 and am very pleased with it! Steve is very active in adding and coding new features and always replies very quickly when there a questions.

also I would like to see some feature in a future update:

a $/€ amount based ‘locked in profit’ configuração. atm this is available with the equity trail on a % basis but I find it hard and cumbersome to find a proper setting as one has permanently adjust the values when the balance changes.

what I suggest is the following:

for the above setting as soon as a trade would be 5$ in profit a SL would be automatically set at +1$. if the trade continues in favour you just let it run until it hits your TP either pip based or your FloatingTP. if it retraces though all orders would be closed at +1$ and still secure a small profit. you would basically have a ‘risk free trade’ as soon as you’re in a profit zone.

of course the values have to be adjustable.

also I’d like to see a manual trade sequence setting:

This is the best EA I have used that consistently makes money every week. Started in June 2016 with 5K and since made 2.3K profit. Probably would have had more profit but I took Steve’s recommendation to shut it down during the BREXIT vote. Started with low risk at first and have been increasing it steadily. I have used halfgrid, flexhybrid and default and all were profitable. Out of these DEFAULT is my favorite. I am currently experimenting with some of my own custom settings at the moment on my demo account.. I use 20 pairs with max charts 4 with the other settings set to default strategy settings. I have the EA loaded on a VPS and runs 24 hours 6 days a week. I sleep very well at night.

S&R filter is timeframe dependent, with that in mind I run it on H1 or H4 and use 24-48 number of bars to look back to determine the S&R levels.

Sean I agree with you. So I share what I do in order to find the right strategy. I don’t focus on one single one, but for the best of each pair.

I user the strategy tester in optimization mode and let all settings as default and then switch on testing for the strategy from Default to ADR Dynamic.

I do this for each pair and a timeframe such as 1 year. As spread I use this table as I found it reasonable for my brokers for STP accounts (no commission).

The last 2 I don’t use as they are on the list of pairs to avoid.

Once I found the strategy for each pair that is profitable and with a reasonable DD I can use it with default settings or can try optimization of parameters.

But be aware, if getting too greedy even flex cannot help. All strategies are in a way MartiGrids and hence to start with a risk of 0,1 or 0,2 is the key for long-time success.

Sorry Tre, I currently don’t have a video. But if you are a bit familiar with back-testing in MT 4 it is pretty easy.

I alsp recommand using 99% tickdata as most broker’s history is only a few month. Search youtube for MT4 backtest 99%

Here are the steps ..

1. If not already done, add the symbol you want the backtest to run in the market view (STRG-U)

2. Open Strategy Tester view (STRG-R)

3. Drag the Forex-Flex-EA from the Navigator window to the Strategy Tester view.

4. Choose your desired symbol.

5. Choose Model “Every tick”

6. Set period (flex is designed for M15)

7. Set Spread for your symbol according to the table in post #15.

8. Check Optimization check-box.

9. Click Expert Properties button (new window opens with 3 tabs)

10. On Testing tab set desired Initial Deposit and Optimization parameter .. eg. Equilibrar.

11. Check Strategy variable and choose for start column “Default” and for Stop column “ARDDynamic”

12. Click OK button (window closes)

13. You may adjust the test period by choosing dates at the “Use date” seção. Por exemplo. from 2016.01.01 to 2016.10.15.

14. Click in Strategy Tester the “Start” botão.

Now it’ll take some time to process all tests as MT4 doesn’t support parallel testing such as MT5. However, you will find 2 new tabs after pressing start in Strategy Tester – “Optimization Results” and “Optimization Graph”. On Results you’ll find the list, which will be sorted by Profit after the last test is done.

You can actually still use any timeframe, higher ones are recommended because 4.00 has the UseSR (Support & Resistance) turned on by default which is timeframe sensitive. It looks back ‘x’ NumOfBars, so you can understand why running this on M15 with a low NumOfBars will result in the SR lines being too tight to the current price.

Should the number of bars be lower on a one minute timeframe like ten? Why 300 works better?

When I selected the “Flexhybrid” strategy, the EA didn’t automatically set the parameters values. They are totally different than the ones mentioned in the documentation. Any idea/clarification?. For example, based on the Flex EA documentation, the RealTakeProfit and Pipstep should be 50 and 20 but the EA automatically set them to 30 and 15.

Yes you can trade 1 currency pair with every strategy if you wanted, but each instance of it will need a unique magic number to different it’s trades, which means the currency and max charts filter won’t work, which means it could trigger many strategies to trade at the same time.

I suggest testing this in demo first 😛

The shotgun account is a vendor account, not mine. I believe it’s just the Shotgun strategy trading 16 pairs, including some high risk ones like GBPCHF, GBPJPY, EURAUD etc…

Wow I woke up today worried that JPY mess was going to have some major losses, but to my surprise Flex went long almost perfectly at the bottom of this crash after the JPY news. Turned a nice little profit with no DD, unreal entry.

Yea ive turned it on with my trendsurfer and using default settings for everything else. It seems to help get out of drawdowns quicker. It seems like it’s basically TrendSurfer + Default strategies all in one. It adds to orders in profit, and adds if the price goes against. Its too early to say but it looks like it could be a good money maker.

I see Flexhybrid but no Trendhybrid. Where is this new Trendhybrid setting?

I am very new to forex trading and have been experimenting with a demo account. I’d be lying if I said I was doing well despite using indicators on MT4 hence I have been investigating EAs. Have read several reviews on different products and they all promise exorbitant ROI looking at their backtesting results. It is all rather overwhelming.

The reviews above from you all seem promising. I do have a question which is to do with day trading. I am at work all 5 days but do have access to my MT4 platform. Has anyone tried day manual trading using this EA. If I were to invest in this EA I can automate it perhaps to the extent of alerting when to enter & close a trade & NOT to fully automate it where it does everything itself. A little too risky for my level of comfort.

I’ve been having huge success with the scalper strategy using slightly different settings, but don’t think the trendMode would work well with it. Looks like it’s more suited for the bigger strats like Default.

I don’t think Flex has to worry as much about brokers starting to fight it’s success like the old days of Asian scalpers. But I get the sentiment of wanting to keep something that makes you money private 😉

Here is my Flex trading Default strategy on 20 pairs. I literally just opened 20 charts, put Flex on all of them and changed NO settings. Here is the result.

if you trade this way, sooner or later you will BLOW your account.

This isn’t a full blown grid trading EA like Forex Hacked, it’s much much different.

Each chart has a 10% DD stoploss, and only 4/20 are allowed to have open trades at the same time. I haven’t even come close to hitting the 10% DD on any of my charts in over 6 months of trading Flex.

I am actually trading 25 pairs on Flex Hybrid with the out of the box settings, and am seeing similar results. I’ve been trading small lot sizes as shown on this screenshot, and am thinking of increasing them. Flex Hybrid does not add trades to its basket until strict conditions are met, so there is less risk than with full grid trading. I’ve been very happy with it so far.

Ugh I’m just praying for the day this thing is no longer for sale. It’s making me way too much money and the longer it’s available to the public the greater the chance that could all end. I wonder if I could pay the vendor enough to stop selling it lol.

Of course there is, but you must first ask yourself if you’re willing to risk at least 50%+ of your account in the process?

You could run Default strategy on 20+ pairs, and increase Max_Charts to 10 with 0.5 Risk.

Or run Full-Grid on 10 or so pairs, low risk and Max_Charts 10.

You could essentially make 100% with any of their strategies if you can handle the risk.

Hi, I am having trouble with Flex, is interfering with other EAs and modifying their orders. I have tried to contact the vendor for weeks with no success. Anyone else with the same problem? Did anyone manage to get support from the developer?

You may be blocked by a spam filter, I know they were having issues with a few certain ISPs not getting through to them. Try emailing them via another domain email.

As for your modify problem, are you by chance using the trailing mode?

Is it possible to set a max pips drawdown instead of % of balance?

…or an actual stoploss per trade in pips at least.

Loving this FlexHybrid strategy, keeps pumpin out wins with minimal drawdown. Im curious to try the other strats too but can’t pull myself away from this one.

Are you using the out of the box settings on the FlexHybrid? I’ve been running the other strats for the past month on a demo account. Scalper, Half Grid and 3X Retrace trigger more trades but you have to be ready for steeper drawdowns. All but one (so far) recovered nicely, but not for the faint of heart.

Yes out of the box settings for FlexHybrid, but changed risk to 0.3 and DD_stoploss to 30 trading on 20 pairs.

I find the scalper more dangerous than the other 2 you mentioned. It’s great to pile in some quick cash with the scalper, but it can just as quickly get you in trouble.

1. is it better to use drawdown percentage or stop loss as a way of money management?

2. i set my virtual trade to 1 and it seems to be trading well.. however the default was 6. is that ok?

1. I use the DD_Stoploss percentage which is based on a per chart basis now. The 2xRetraceSL strategy uses a 100-120 pip stoploss and seems like it could be a great long term earner though, just not as big in profits. If you plan on using the real stop loss in pips, don’t set it too low or it will crush your profits.

2. Setting virtual trades to 1, is essentially turning Flex into an almost full martingale EA, which is fine and can make a lot of money but can get risky very quickly. If you’re going to trade like this, I suggest using the lowest risk possible.

Hi guys I am a Forex trader and have tried out many robots in the past and none of them have worked so before I buy and try the Forex Flex EA I would like to know if this EA is really winning on a consistent basis. I have looked at all the trade results on myfxbook, but have seen the same type of results with other bots I have tried in the past on a demo account and did not get the same results. Also the new Flex EA 3x Retrace strategy with an 83% win rate looks good so please give me some feedback guys so I can decide if I am going to buy this EA or not.

This EA is based more so on mathematics than anything else, so there is no reason why demo results won’t transfer to real at almost 1:1 unless your broker is playing you.

At 17:00 the 3X account opened (the myfxbook one) opened 2 cad trades, the drawdown got well over 30% as I watched it all day. My own opened the same trade yesterday as the 3X, but today opened no trades, while the myfxbook one opened a cad, nzd/usd and nzd/jpy, so has 3 pairs with 3 open trades.

I think mine is set to wait 1 minute before opening trades, but if you look at the 3X you will see 2 trades opened that minute (doubling Lots). Hope it recovers for the guys sake who owns the account.

I believe that account uses Half-grid strat.

I am thinking of changing to 3X retrace, but because I don’t know how reliable the VPS is I am using 2X retrace. If I resave the templates to 3X can I add a stoploss like 2X does or will it ignore. The VT can be changed but can SL? Obrigado. Asking before I try, as I logged into the forexflex website but there was no ‘contact us’ inside the members area. If I can add a SL for safety to the VPS MT4 I think I will. The results from 3X are better, and doubling instead of tripling will give me more profits…with the VT8 I use. I even started a myfxbook of my account. I think it is a great tool.

If your VPS can run 2x retrace, it will have no problem running any other Flex strats.

You can add a stoploss to 3x retrace, just select it from the strategy list, and then enter a RealStopLoss.

Hi everyone i just purchase flexea..pls any can share a stratege &good setting for account of $400.

Since you have only 400 dollars, it’s important that you let it calculate the lot sizes for you, which it does on the basis of the size of your account. If you leave it at the settings that are already preset, then it will do this for you. I bought it last week, and traded the default strategy on a 3800 dollar demo account. It traded it up to 3900 within 5 days taking three or four small trades. I then added yesterday the Scalper setting, and it took four or five pretty risky trades (which it eventually won by adding to the positions martingale-style) bringing the account up to 4062. I’m satisfied with this, though since I am conservative, I’m not sure I’m going to run the Scalper right away on the live account. On long trades, it seems to work by catching falling knives and then scaling in with larger and larger lot sizes martingale style until it can squeeze out a small profit when there is a pullback. The gurus tell you not to trade like this. If I want to sleep at night, it’s probably good advice.

No, it just increases the lot size. I am getting quite a few and trades regularly but have not counted exactly. It just varies depending if does the additional trades, etc. This is the overall most consistent EA I have used since 2008.

When you click on the strategy you want to use the EA will use those settings that are for that particular strategy. I personally like the newer FlexHybrid strategy the best.

Mag, to add that is all you have to do…the settings will be the default of strategy in background even though will show diff when looking at input tab settings. You can verify because some things like # of buys or sells will show on chart window for the strategy you are currently running.

I did really well with gap down today on GBP/JPY and good thing I had 100% DD. Too close for comfort though on that pair and just added it since Julius mentioned so thanks again Julius but I took down the extra GBP pairs you mentioned for now. They made money but seems more risky than the 10 pairs forex flex list under documentation so just sticking with that now with flexhybrid, 100% DD and 0.7 risk. Joe mentioned that 100% DD and it’s working so pulling out profit already to do it again!

I think what others are missing about this EA and one reason why it is so successful is it closes all trades on all charts when at overall 1% gain. That’s also another reason the 100% DD ends up working out…

Hi guys, I just bought it because of all the reviews here. Struggling with what settings to use to be conservative. I will set up a VPS on my $1330 account ECN go markets in the next couple of days.

I think 7 pairs with 2X retrace, 3% drawdown, 18% a month so far…by the myfxbook. From what you guys are saying the flexhybrid is the other best one.

But how come there is no myfxbook – even for a month or two? And how come the 99.9% backtests cannot be clicked on to check out?

But if flexhybrid does as good as default 2 it should not be a problem. I am conservative and want about 100% a year, managed fx guys always lost my money and wanted 30% commission. Robots always lost. And trade copiers were $100+ a month. This was a spur of the moment decision. Hope we all profit.

Robert, I also bought it because of all the reviews. I began the flex default on a demo account last Thursday with the “out of the box” configurações. It seems to be behaving quite conservatively for me so far. To date (5 days) it has only opened and closed 4 long EUR/USD trades for an average of about 7 pips each. I guess it depends on what size you’re trading, but at 0.1 setting, it’s not much. In any case, it’s 4 for 4, so I’m not complaining.

I’m doing well with it so far. The 2X is what I have on. I tested it (live) with flexhybrid, and it stayed open over the weekend on the flex, which I don’t want to do again.

My settings are conservative. VT=8 (was 7 first night and gbpused opened 4 martingales to win $100) so I set them all to VT8 to feel safer. have 14 pairs on 2X, VT=8, risk=0.02, 4 positions not 5-the5th martingale will destroy account if it goes bad, and equity not balance, charts 3…too many at once if things go bad can = DD. maybe they are misnamed these strategies, from trades on myfxbook and mine. The 2X goes 00.1,0.03,0.09.027… and the 3X goes 0.01,0.02 etc…

It was just the Flexhybrid that I could not find a myfxbook for.

I like the 2X has a stoploss, and in reality actually increases lotsX3. I notice now that it is called 2X because it will only increase martingale twice. I use low risk 0.02 and 4 martingales with VT=8.

I am trading all 10 pairs vendor list on documentation and so far doing better than the myfxbook account.

The first trade that Flex opened for me was a long EURUSD at the Asian open (7/5). I wonder if there is a script in the algorithm that instructs it to buy the gap? Also, I am wondering when it will close the trade to lock in a profit. (I am using the default settings.)

Also forgot to mention, flexhybrid is a lot safer than default. it opens the 1st trade and than only open the 2nd trade if a similar condition met, usually after 70 to 100 pips. Unlike default open 2nd trade after 21 pips.

e. g 1st = 0.01, 2nd= 0.03 3rd= 0.09 i found 70% trade closed with 1st trade, 28% trade closed with 2nd trade, only very rare closed with 3rd trade.

i found gbpnzd, gbpaud, gbpjpy, gbpchf trade often and profitable due to the nature of the currency, a lot of ups and a lot of downs, very volatile. gbpcad is the one closed with 3rd trade. but still very low risk.

I recently bought ForexFlex and am running the default settings on the six major pairs in a demo account right now. (It has not opened a trade during the two days it’s been up.) I’ve been reading the posts and am curious why people prefer to turn the risk way up. I don’t want to blow out my account right away once I go live. Can someone explain to me the advantage here?

Been trading a mix of x3Retrace and FlexHybrid strategies on 20 pairs… This week has been unreal so far. I’m watching my fap turbo, rev trader and others just get destroyed this week because of the Greek volatility, but Flex is just thriving in it.

I love the fact it has over 10 strategies to chose from, very addicting robot to trade with let me tell you lol.

Hey Kim and others regarding 100% DD. I feel same as what Joe wrote regarding this, especially the way the new FlexHybrid Strategy works. When account reaches 100% profit I will withdraw profit.

Here again is what Joe wrote:

I have the risk turned way up for the Default strategy, trading on 10 pairs, but only 2-3 charts maximum at any point in time (as I think it is rare to get 4 or more trades at once so higher risk is better, with fewer consecutive trades). The EA trades beautifully and drawdown doesn’t generally exceed more than 15%. It seems better to me to put your drawdown maximum near where 90% or more of typical trades run to.

To me risking your entire balance doesn’t seem worth it beyond a certain amount of drawdown. Or perhaps I am missing something… I would be interested in other peoples view…

strongly agree 100% is far far too much. i do find flexea 2.3 is very stable but still think the 1.0 risk and default 6 vt is not safe enough. i use 0.4 / 0.5 risk and default 7. that way, i can sleep and no worry. also, test your brokers, it acts very different with different brokers. ECN is STRONLY recommended.

i trade both default and super preceise at the same time with all 10 pairs, so total 20 pairs. default vt=7, risk = 0.5. super precise VT=8, PS=22, risk = 0.4. dont trade very often but 90% win rate. very stable and profitable.

I lose a lot money before because i over trade the account and want quick money, but after all 20%-30% is very doable with risk = 0.4 / 0.5.

Thanks Julius, I added all the GBP pairs you mentioned to run FlexHybrid on. That is the strategy I personally reco with all default settings except risk at 0.7 and DD @ 100%.

I reco for starting out (and what I do even after using EA’s since 2008) just use the new FlexHybrid Strategy with all default settings except me personally I changed risk to 1. and DD 100%…changed nothing else and running on all 10 charts that vendor recommends.

Overall great broker IMO to use Flex with is TradersWay, ask for Joe Carney and tell him Mike sent ya. He has best customer service in the industry bar none!

I have used just about every EA and top manual trading systems out there and Flex is currently my overall favorite! Especially with the 75% off, great deal…all IMO!

Does DD 100% means you could wipe out the entire account? How do you know when to withdraw your money to protect against that?

Yes it does, withdraw when profit when reaches 100%…so far this strategy is working for my investment but it’s just one of many…best of luck to you!

For example, on the FH website it is suggested that account leverage should be set at 100:1 or 200:1 for accounts over $5000 and higher leverage for smaller account sizes. JJ, why does your settings say “trailing = 1” instead of false or true? Does it change to that if you select “your own settings” as strategy value?

Ahh I dunno but it’s supposed to be ‘off’. I guess 0=on and 1=off according to MT4.

So JJ Do we just enter the set file in the robot settings or what? please Explain?

Right click the link and save as. Then when you attach Flex to a chart, on the inputs tab click the Load button and browse to where you just saved that. set file and it will change all the settings accordingly, then click ok.

I’m trading 22 pairs with this on a $5k account with 1:400 leverage. The main difference here over the default settings is virtual trades set to 7, real trades lowered to 3, and trading a lot more pairs obviously 🙂

Hi JJ / everyone.

Your results are a breath of fresh air to my mind. Quick summary I opened a $10k DEMO Acc. 20150429 with GCMFX. Trading DEFAULT only on AUD, EUR, GBPUSD – USDCHF & JPY Also (and clearly this is my mistake) XAUUSD.

Results today are that the account has been stopped out 6 times and there is at the moment an Equity of $4583 Profit/Loss = $2560. There have been 260 trades in this time roughly (uncounted) Account History shows 30% of all trades are losses. Remember at this point, all pairs are trading the DEFAULT strategy only.

In conclusion, Flex doesn’t trade all pairs!!

I’ve been using EA’s since I first purchased FAPTurbo years ago. This isn’t something new or strange to me. I do see Flex as up there with the best & I will continue to take in great results like from JJ today & will succeed one day!

I’m trying to clarify exactly how DD_StopLossPct functions. For example, if I have set DD_StopLossPct to 20%, does that mean that the maximum possible drawdown for that chart is 20% before it automatically closes all the trades for that chart only? If there are other charts they have their own settings so their trades are not affected, right? If you can clarify how that works I would really appreciate it.

If you set DD_StopsLossPct to 20 on GBPUSD, all your GBPUSD trades from Flex will close if their drawdown reaches -20% of your account balance(you can change this to equity in the settings). Trades from Flex on other pairs won’t be touched. I’m told a setting will be added in the next update to select if you want it to close all Flex trades, or just that specific pairs trades.

I have not, but I do have plans to buy another VPS dedicated to Flex only. My plan is to setup 12-15 MT4 accounts trading 12-15 different strategies/settings. Basically a Flex only competition 🙂

No scalping is too broker sensitive and requires too much watching. I rather just set and forget with the default strat.

I have had ForexHacked and the Russian harmonic ZUP indicator running for three years now. (seperately) FH makes real dollars but its always losing real dollars in the long run. I know I need to be more hands on with it but, that does defeat the purpose of an EA.

Been running Flex for 7 months.

I currently have no drawdown with my Flex, and haven’t had much of any for the past few weeks. Most trades seem to close in profit relatively quickly.

This thing just keeps getting better and better. v2.2 that was just released has some very cool new features. You can now essentially trade as many pairs as you want, and just set the Max_Charts setting to 4 or so. This way only 4 charts can have open trades at the same time. A lot of people gave this EA some slack cause of it’s lack of trading activity, well this certainly addresses that, and in a very clever and safe way.

How are people finding the v2default strategy? I would love to see how that has been performing compared to the standard default strategy?

Hi Jaime, I would send another e-mail, they’re usually pretty quick to respond. I suspect it may have been lost in spam or never received. I’ve been getting responses within 24 hours for the past year with their support.

As for your issue, did you activate your account number in your profile? Even demo accounts need activation.

Just use the default strategy, v2.2 is performing extremely well!

Please, how does this robot choose or calculate the volume or lot size, is there anyway that lot size or volume to be traded could be input or fixed manually, thank you.

You can set it so it calculates lot size based on your current balance or equity. Or you can turn that money management off and use manually set lot sizes.

This is the best EA on the web. For those of you who were wondering, it does not take a lot of money for this EA to work. I have started a small account and it is working perfectly. These are the settings i have changed.

Right now I am only trading EUR/USD. Should I ad GBP/USD since both pairs behave similar or should I wait until I have $300 or more dollars in my account?

Oi & # 8211; have turned my Flex EA of as my broker has said it is sending hundreds of S/L signals to their servers, Is anyone else having this issue ? If not are you configuring your EA in any way to stop this, or what broker are you using , i am using Pepperstone , who up until this issue have been a great Broker, and i have been with them for 5 years.

I use the following configuration and have around 20 to 40 trades per days and around 3-4 % daily return.

& # 8211; leverage : 1:50 (very conservative, just change to 1:75)

& # 8211; i really strongly do not use very high leverage, very risky. i tested it and make money very fast, unless you have a lot of capital in the account, otherwise it will call margin and wipe out the entire account. it happen to me a few times before i learn.

again, leverage is very important, i really suggest you start from 1:50 … and increase it after 1 week…

Also VPS is a must.

& # 8211; ensure you enough CPU, i ran multple MT4 in the account and run out of CPU and am sure lost trades.

& # 8211; plenty of capital (dont trade all 6 pairs if you do not have enough)

& # 8211; start with low leverage.

& # 8211; VPS with fast cpu.

& # 8211; you have to ensure that your setup can cope with market rally and you feel comfortable to go to sleep or go on holiday.

This EA really does work and believe me i have used many EA’s that have crashed and burned. I have reduced the default trading risk on mine to 0.2 using the default settings, it trades fine using the 0.5 default however when we see MAJOR shifts in currency prices then the EA can take you into major draw down. The reduction allows me to feel more comfortable when this happens, otherwise by the 5th trade you are into 2.1 Lot size. With the reduction trade 5 is only 0.68 ( my account size is 10k) - HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.

Hello, should I use 15 min charts for all the strategies and all currency pairs?

Looks like a very high grade EA you have here…I have used many others in past and use to do well with FAPTURBO but it changed.

If you can find a way to run MT4 build 600+ on mac then yes. Or just get a windows VPS.

What about the risks with this EA? Is it a martigale strategy? I don’t understand these “virtual trades”, can these trades be seen? Are these a kind of shadow trades to see if the present settings/strategy are still successful?

The virtual trades can now be seen on chart. The default settings use a half-grid strategy, not full martingale. But you can set this thing up to trade any style you desire.

Too early to tell for most it only just released a few days ago. It could take a week or longer to see your first trades especially with these sideways markets.

If you trade all 6 currency pairs with default settings, you can expect anywhere from 20-50 trades per month. It is highly dependent on market conditions and how volatile things are that month.

Joe and if i bought the gold package how can expect to trade? how many orders? and your advises are?

Gold wont trade anymore than silver, it just gives you 4 live accounts to use it on instead of 1 with silver.

Sounds good so far,,But a whole lot of these Robot do sound good on paper…Will someone please keep me updated on the performance..Been burnt too may times with these So called profitable Robots And this one’s pretty expensive too! It should profit !!…

Bought and loaded this up two days ago with no trades yet although i have smiley face and it says trading..Joe what time frame should i be using, i thought i saw 15 mins somewhere..

That is normal Owen, it will take a while to build up those background market monitoring trades. Once those are in full effect, you will start seeing trades.

I went to their site. But there is no much information like number of demos per license, MT4 600+ will work, list of currency pairs, time frame, name of developer & their past eas. I will appreciate if you could provide this information. Obrigado # 8211; Lua.

Its mt4 build 600+ compatible.

Currency pairs: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, USDCAD, AUDUSD but you could potentially run it on just about any pair you want.

Not sure who the developer is exactly, I will try to get that information.

I forgot to ask how many demos are allowed under each package. Also can I set it to fixed lot instead of auto MM.

It’s based on account number so it would be 1 demo or 1 live, but I’m sure you could e-mail in and ask for more demo accounts.

Just wanted to let everyone know my experience so far in purchasing a silver membership. Signup and payment was a breeze and account was activated instantly.

Downloaded and installed the EA (.ex4 and. dll), loaded it up on my account on 6 pairs using default settings. Took all of about 10 minutes.

Support was quick to respond to my e-mail too. I guess we just have to wait and see how it performs which doesn’t appear like its going to be a problem.

Thanks for all of your great help and advice, Joe. I have owned Forex Hacked for years. It is the only EA that has been profitable for me. As you know, it can also be quite dangerous if not used properly. It looks like Flex has good profit potential with less risk than Hacked, and that appeals to me. However, Flex is also more expensive. In your opinion, is it worth the extra cost to purchase Flex when I already have Hacked?
